Nice to see, with a fast and functional interface, a competitive price and excellent hardware.
Review Xiaomi Mi8 Lite, the low cost that looks like a top
There are occasions when trying a phone becomes a surprise, the writing of the xiaomi mi8 Lite review is one of those cases.
I started using it with a bit of distraction and maybe something that comes close to the superficiality of this new device, but I had to change my mind rather quickly and recognize a superlative quality / price ratio.
WHAT I LIKE
Snapdragon 660 processor
General construction quality
Very high audio speaker
Very accurate interface
WHAT I DO NOT LIKE
Portrait photos are not the best
The electronic stabilization of the videos is just discrete
No 3.5 mm jack

Aspect and constructive quality
This is the first detail that will hit you with the new Xiaomi Mi8 Lite , taking into account the fact that it costs less than 200 euros.
Glass back, metal frame, fingerprint sensor on the back and an aesthetic impact that will immediately make you think of a superior quality device.
There is no 3.5 mm headphone connector, but you will find an adapter in the box.
It is almost impossible to recognize this phone from the model Mi8 SE, if not for the position of the rear camera, which is horizontal here, while in the other model it is vertical.
There is no IPXX certification, but for this market positioning it is not a detail that can be easily expected.
Xiaomi Mi8 Lite Review: the display
A screen that works really well, even if it is not particularly bright.
Good color calibration and a very generous surface. But what matters most is the quality of the panel, which for less than 200 euros is a fullHD + with a 19: 9 ratio.
The frames are very small and the Notch is small in size, the ratio between total surface and screen is over 82%,
Incredibly, this is a better detail than the Mi8 SE top class model.
Hardware and performance
There is a detail that, by itself, should orientate your preference towards the new Xiaomi Mi8 Lite: the processor is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, the best solution that can be adopted today for this price.
In fact, the phone is fast, responsive and the combination with 4 GB of RAM offer almost surprising performance for this category.
The software on board is Android 8, which actually created me some problems with the official Launcher. During my test I had to do more than a hard reset of the phone, because suddenly its basic program, that which is called Launcher, was constantly stopping.
Only when I chose a different launcher did the phone start working smoothly and without problems. Evidently there is a conflict between that application and something that I have installed. I trust an update to solve the problem.
In this area we are exactly in line with the market positioning: a medium quality product, with performances that I would define in the average.
There is a menu with lots of options to play with, but you do not find options like telephoto, black and white sensor or alternatives of various kinds, which would not be sustainable with this price.
The images are discrete, but without particular peaks of excellence: even when the HDR is activated, the result is not particularly evident.
There is also the support of artificial intelligence, but it seems to me a marketing tool rather than a really effective tool that makes the difference in the photos. But as always, an extra option is always welcome.
The portrait effect is not very consistent, in the English meaning of the term, because the result is always rather unpredictable. In some cases, well, in others bad, but it is very difficult to understand what the reasons for the results are.
The front camera is discreet, but do not be fooled by the 24 mpx sensor: the camera is fixed focus and for this reason the results are so-so. In portrait mode a little ‘improves, but it is definitely not the best “selfie experience” of the market.
The videos are in 4K at 30 frames per second, but you can also go down to 1080 or 720 pixels, but you do not expect to be able to shoot a Hollywood colossal. There is a little ‘noise in some scenes and there is not so much contrast in the colors.
But there is electronic image stabilization.
On board the new Xiaomi Mi8 Lite there is a 3.350 mAh battery compatible with Quick Charge 3.0 , the option for fast charging. The equipment is of a good standard, although it should be noted that the processor Snapdragon 660 has no special measures on energy saving.
Plus there is a very large display. All the details put together gave me good results, however, because I arrived at the end of the day with a good 25% of residual capacity.
Too bad that the charger inside the package is not compatible with the quick charge 3.0, it will not be difficult to find one even from outside vendors.
Xiaomi Mi8 Lite review: conclusions
A device that has an excellent quality-price ratio and that presents a very pleasant appearance, along with a complete and fast interface.
If you want a low cost product, this is one of the best solutions you can think of.
